🧭 Mission Statement & Values

Our mission at MemberSpace is to help anyone build a sustainable membership business (without coding) anywhere on the internet.

The main people we help are non-technical folks who simply want an online membership business. Starting a business is hard in general so when you add in technology setup it can be a real struggle for many people, especially those that are less tech-literate. Therefore, we focus heavily on customer support and being empathetic to anyone who contacts us. This value of ours is deep in our roots as a business and something we've emphasized since day one.

Security is important to us and our customers so please review our Security Procedures here.

Failing to follow these guidelines will likely put you, our team, and our customers at risk of data compromise or loss of privacy. Please ask a teammate if you don't understand something.

MemberSpace is an online company so passwords are the main protection we have from nefarious people. It's vital that all of our passwords for all services that we use are close to impossible to guess.

We want you to use our 1Password account for any MemberSpace-related logins that need to be shared with others on the team to do our jobs. For any personal logins you can use 1Password to keep those secure and NOT accessible by us or anyone else. If you're using a system similar to 1Password and don't want to switch, that's fine just let us know what it is so we can approve it (please email or

When creating new passwords for online accounts, make sure you use randomly generated passwords that are at least 15 characters long and always try to use all character types allowed.

Be sure to generate a unique password for every account you have (i.e. don't use the same password twice).

You’re expected to behave in a way that ensures effective business operations and protects the safety and well-being of everyone we do business with - including other employees, independent contractors, partners, colleagues, clients, and users.

We reserve the right to determine the appropriate level of disciplinary action for disruptive and/or inappropriate conduct. Disciplinary action can include written or verbal warnings, suspension with or without pay, and discharge. Each situation will be dealt with on an individual basis.

Examples of behavior that may result in disciplinary action, including possible termination, are:
  • Failing to report to work at assigned times
  • Reporting to work ill-equipped or willfully unable to perform your duties as scheduled
  • Treating others in a discourteous manner
  • Threatening or intimidating others
  • Using abusive language
  • Racist, sexist, or homophobic behavior
  • Sexual or any other form of harassment
  • Violation of company policies or directives
  • Refusal to follow instructions concerning an employment-related directive
  • Misuse of company time and/or resources
  • Failure to meet job performance standards
This list is not an exclusive list of inappropriate behavior. We retain complete discretion to administer disciplinary action for any behavior deemed inappropriate.

A conflict of interest can occur when an employee/contractor's financial, political, or social interests interfere (or appear to interfere) with their ability to do their job.

Common conflicts of interest include:
  • Use of non-public company information for personal gain
  • Outside employment or consulting which interferes with your current job responsibilities or competes with the company
  • Accepting a gift of significant value from the company’s customers or vendors
This list is not an exclusive list of conflicts of interest. We retain complete discretion to administer disciplinary action for any behavior deemed inappropriate.

💬 Communication

We want everyone to try and have fun at work and keep communication casual. But at the same time, we want to be careful not to offend anyone else on the team or customers.

So when you post a gif, image, video, or text in Basecamp, HelpScout, Github, email, etc keep it PG-13 rated (i.e. limit F bombs, no nudity, etc). Please use your best judgement.

🏦 Payroll & Benefits

Typically full-time employees and contractors are regularly scheduled to work around 35 to 40 hours per week and will be paid twice a month via ACH deposits to the bank account they have connected in Justworks.

Personal data such as name, home address, social security number, phone number, emergency contact information, or any other information affecting the terms of you participating in the company’s benefit offerings should be kept up to date. When you have a change in personal data that may affect pay or benefits, please update your account in Justworks as soon as possible.

🏝 Time Off

When you need to take time off (1/2 day or more), please make a scheduled event in Basecamp (HQ) so the whole team knows when you'll be out. Here's the process.

If you're an employee, you'll also need request paid time off (PTO) in JustWorks. Log into your JustWorks account > click 'Time off' on the left > click Request Time Off button.

❤️ Feedback & Performance

We’re all about continuous improvement and feedback in your day to day experience with MemberSpace. Expect to be communicating with the team frequently about what is/isn’t working and where there are opportunities for improvement.

Roughly every 3 months, Ward Sandler and/or Ryan Bennick will have a 1-to-1 private conversation (over Zoom) with you to gather any feedback and goals you have along with providing performance issues/improvements if necessary.

You may be asked questions such as:
  • How are you feeling in general about work?
  • Has anything been holding you back or frustrating you?
  • Do you want your role to evolve over the next 6 months? If so, what are you imagining?
  • Is there anything you think you could improve on?

After the conversation, we will email you a quick summary of what was discussed and any action steps.

🤝 At-Will Employment

Employees are employed at-will and nothing in the handbook is to be construed as creating a contract of employment. We have the right to modify or delete policies in this handbook without notice to employees. Nothing in the handbook should be interpreted or intended to prevent employee communications regarding wages, hours, or other terms and conditions of employment or interfere with employees' rights to engage in protected concerted activity under Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act.

Please do us the courtesy of giving 8 weeks notice before you plan to leave the company. This way we have time to find a replacement and onboard them properly before you leave.
