  • The National SkillsUSA conference is gearing up and progressing, though unfortunately, I'm not part of it.
  • The first set of deadlines passed this month, as it does every year, along with IBS, the winter conference, and this time, a cyber attack. Fortunately, the staff at SkillsUSA is flexible. It's possible they set the deadlines well in advance of when the work is actually needed, which may mean I'm not the only one running behind schedule.
  • There are two major changes I plan to implement this year.
    1. We are going to use the Catchbox microphones during our orientation.
    2. We will attempt to use the AIBD Design Technician Level One Certificate Test as the written portion of the National Competition. By doing so, each student will be awarded their respective points towards the contest, but those who receive what would relate to a 70% or better passing grade will also be emailed a DTL-1 Certificate.
Background:
The AIBD Design Technician Level One Certificate Test, created before the pandemic, aimed to verify that a high school student was competent in reading a set of working drawings.
The program was launched but then stalled. The goal is to generate interest among high schools to pay us for offering the test. By giving it away to national competitors, we hope to attract the interest of their faculty advisors.
