The Lambeth Together Vaccination Champion Programme

Most of us are convinced that getting vaccinated is key to helping the UK move out of the coronavirus pandemic. Unfortunately, in Lambeth, we have significant numbers of citizens that are hesitant about having the vaccine. Despite numerous attempts from GPs and other health professionals, there are key members of the population who remain reluctant to get vaccinated.

To help support conversations with our hesitant population, and to increase access to the vaccination, Lambeth Together is responding with a raft of measures to achieve higher levels of vaccination.

One of the key approaches is the development of Vaccination Champions.

We are looking to employ 9 Vaccination Champions across the borough, each attached to a Primary Care Network, and focused on reaching those most reluctant to have the vaccination.

The scheme will be coordinated by Age UK Lambeth, who will provide administrative support, brokerage of referrals and coordination of monitoring and feedback to referrers.

We are looking for local people who would be interested in being a Champion.
  • Full training will be provided
  • The Job Description will be provided by AUKL. Broadly the role will include:
    • receiving referrals from the co-ordinator and GP's
    • Meeting clients to discuss their objections to the vaccination and explore how to overcome them
    • Supporting clients to have the vaccination
    • working with key local community groups to explore objections and help provide positive ways forward
    • Providing feedback to the coordinator

We are looking for people that can evidence that they can reach and connect with those communities that have been identified as the most reluctant to engage with the vaccination programme. You can find out more about the communities that remain hesitant to be vaccinated in the following documents:

Geographic Links

Not only are we looking for people who are connected with communities of culture and identity, but we are also trying to link each champion to a Primary Care Network. These are groupings of GP practices across the borough. Lambeth has 9 of them.

Here's a map to help you think about which ones would be better for you to link with:
