2021_03_03 Board Meeting - 4.1 Presidents Report

Hope everybody and your families are all doing well. Thank you for your attendance today.

As you will see in our reporting this month, everything continues to go well for AIBD despite steering through a pandemic. We are helped of course by a strong economy in the building industry.

Our committees are doing well. There are a few items that we can improve on and both Steve and I have been discussing some plans to help those committees focus on what their main goals should be.

We are quickly approaching the summer which includes new nominations for board members and potential shifts in committee chairs.

Last month we voted to put a number of chapters in probation status, and although we have not yet created a good letter to hand out to all those chapter chairs, I sense resurgence in chapter activity. Thanks, in part to the AIBD staff which has created more exposure for chapter meetings, particularly of the chapters that are active. This is sending a great example and I see some of the non-active chapters moving forward. This is great news.

As president I still have multiple goals to achieve but seeing our institute getting organized with our chapter success is refreshing. I hope to be able to help and keep that momentum moving forward to a point where is comes more natural for us to have a lot of chapter activity. And to feel good that we are sticking to our By-Laws and Book of Rules that keep us organized and functioning properly.

One of my first goals was to make our Board transparent to our membership. With the Staff’s help and this Board, I believe that goal has been completed. Now it is just up to us to continue the trend. I am enjoying our mointhly coffee chat and I am hearing others are enjoying it also. It's a great way to get exposure from our Board to membership. Now if we can just help Larry Stephenson learn a little bit of virtual video etiquette, we will be doing super great. :-)

Moving forward, I see myself focusing with Steve on taking advantage of our membership give away offer. I want us to improve the membership scoreboard as we have not been taking full advantage of that offer that the Board has approved. We need to look at creating membership growth through creative conferences and timely membership drives. We are so far behind our goals that we all need to get crazy and just give it away, give it away, and even more, give it away. 40% of free membership has retained membership the following year. That is very impressive and we should focus on this.

So far, my role as president has been unexpected in that we are working in a virtual world, something I could have never have expected, but I consider myself very fortunate and thankful for our Staff and Board to help steer us through this.

I still feel like we (this Board) just started yesterday. I am excited with upcoming tasks. I am having so much fun that time is moving way too fast for me.

That is all I have to report. Please ask if you have any questions.
