What is "person-centredness" and the guiding principles for how we provide person-centred supports
Overview
Introduction
- This policy supports and promotes a person-centred approach to providing our services.
- When providing person-centred supports, our client is at the centre of the service and not us.
- This means our focus is on what matters most to the client and their family and/or carer and how we can support our staff with this.
- The fundamental principles that underpin our person-centred practice:
- the client is at the centre
- the client's wider social network is involved as full partners
- there is a partnership between us, the client, and their family/carer
- the client's whole of life is considered.
- The benefits of a person-centred approach are that:
- the wishes of each client are respected
- each client is encouraged to make informed choices
- it provides flexibility to meet the diverse needs of each client
- it improves the personal development of clients by broadening their experiences
- it improves the client's experience and their overall satisfaction.
Applies to
- services provided to all clients
- all HWH staff, including key managers and home support workers
