SUNY Discovery Working Group meeting, 9/18/2020, 1:00 pm, via Zoom
Participants: Amanda, Heidi, Jill, Michelle, Nancy, Pam

Agenda:
  • Review of outstanding issues needing follow-up
    The group discussed a number of outstanding issues that have been shared via Basecamp and on the Alma-L and Primo-L discussion lists, including CDI settings, linking, dedup/FRBR.  Some issues for further follow-up or documentation include:
    1. Review of CDI settings (Michelle): what it means to set CDI search on/off for non-database type collections. All of SUNY needs to be aware of the impact of different settings, so we need to share info and support of colleagues as much as possible. CDI seems to be constantly changing, so the need for review and update is also constant.
    2. Linking problems: many problems related to link-in-record vs link resolver; difficulties in troubleshooting link problems, especially for link-in-record and database-type collections; new and different link problems everyday; quality of metadata creates problems with display, linking, FRBR/dedup.
    3. JSTOR links: Ex Libris recently changed multiple JSTOR collections to link in record, which they expected to fix problems; instead, it created greater problems for institutions and their users, so Ex Libris changed the collections back to link resolver. When they changed back, however, they did not update the status fields in Alma -- so all the collections still indicated link in record. Ex Libris says they will fix.
    4. Gale links: still many outstanding problems with Gale links failing.
    5. Problems with Primo VE services page loading and display with incoming OpenURL searches from other sources (PubMed, Google Scholar, EBSCO databases, etc.) - SUNY and other institutions have been reporting and documenting severe problems.
    6. Suggestion for troubleshooting: create a test view (or test views) with different settings -- ex: a test view with dedup/FRBR turned off for quick check/comparison of record behavior in Primo VE.
    7. CDI Release Notes: new page to highlight: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Content_Corner/Central_Discovery_Index/Release_Notes/2020_CDI_Release_Notes
      So we now have 4 sets of release notes to follow: CDI, CKB, Alma, and Primo. Ex Libris notes that changes such as collection link behavior re: link resolver/link in record will be announced in the CDI Release Notes.
    8. The group asked what we can do to help assist Michelle and support SUNY activities. Michelle will continue to share issues with the group as they come up, so we can all share and provide feedback.
  • Membership recruitment - discussion of applications and recommendations
    The group discussed the membership applications received and determined recommendations we will make to the LSP Advisory Board. Nancy will take the recommendations to the Board and report back on next steps.
  • Primo Release Testing script - now in spreadsheet form
    The group discussed progress so far on the testing script, with kudos to Heidi for the work she's done turning our notes into a spreadsheet. The group agreed that the spreadsheet format itself may be adequate for testing; we don't necessarily need other instructions.  Additional examples will likely continue to be helpful. The next step the group will take is to test out the script on the latest (September) release, which has now been applied in both live and Sandbox environments. We will:
    1. Walk through the test, using the Sandbox links within the document, and see how everything is working and any changes needed;
    2. (Optional) Walk through the test using our live environments, to see if we recognize any additional areas for testings or examples to be added.
