Some of you may be aware, that there was a very passionate discussion going on on the diaspora regarding the UI+UX of the Decent Interface. After partaking in the discussion, as well as going through the challenges that so many users (including myself) faced, I decided to contribute to the community by designing a completely new skin, which focuses 100% on intuitive user experience and contemporary interface. Damian
(DSX Fame) volunteered to contribute by programming the UI that I design, and so we have something new to present to everyone, a new skin, P&D.
Now, its still a heavy work in progress, but I recorded a video of few of the screens that I have designed, the philosophy and approach and the user behaviour and interactions at various steps of the interface. I explain various features and ideas, and I do a walkthrough of many screens in the video below, you can view it here: Video preview of Figma Layouts for P&D
Some important notes:
This current iteration of the interface is mostly intended for intermediate and advanced users. People who like to try different beans, edit values at every shot, refer to data etc.
I plan to design three variations of the dashboard: Favorite focused, DYE Focused and Non-GHC version. Each will have a slightly different bottom section of the dashboard to accommodate for the user needs. In the video and screenshots below, you can see two of the above. Whether all the above will make it in the final skin or not, we're yet to see, as this skin is still WIP, but I hope Damian can do his magic and make it work :) :D
Please note, this whole app is still a WIP, both on design & development front. Damian is working extremely hard, and is super supportive of this vision, and he has made some really exciting progress. The app looks and functions the same as seen in the UI design, which is amazing!
Unlike other skins, I aim to redesign each and every section of the app, not just the dashboard. This is extremely important for me, in terms of value addition, as I believe the access to various settings can be more streamlined, simplified, made easy to use and organized better. Also, I want to eventually be able to link to documentation links in the app help section, so users who are stuck can quickly jump to view certain help docs in the app itself. Eg: The latest and correct information on how to descale as suggested by Decent.
Currently the software stack is built on TCL-Androwish, but from John's end, there's support for windows / linux etc. coming soon. I'm very confident that the way I have currently designed the app, it can be adapted and programmed in any other language if required.
The profile editor has been designed keeping in mind future growth and changes, as the interface can adapt itself to any type of 'Steps' approach, simple or complicated, like simplifying the steps to 'Fill-Soak-Extraction' etc.
Lastly, I hope to hear from everyone here, on what they think works well, what they think doesn't make any sense, and what they think can be included / excluded to make this skin better. I'm quite passionate about this, and I hope to be able to solve for most of them, if not all. I'm all open for ideas, constructive criticism and anything else, as long as its geared towards making this skin better.
