USDA-ARS Postdoctoral Research Agronomist/Ecologist Position – Mandan, North Dakota 
 
The USDA Agricultural Research Service, Northern Plains Climate Hub is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Research Agronomist/Ecologist) to be based in Mandan, ND, for a two-year appointment, with the option to extend to a total of four years based on funding and performance. Ph.D. is required. Salary is commensurate with a GS-11 (step 1) level of $69,107 per annum plus benefits. Citizenship restrictions apply. 
 
The major duties and responsibilities of this position are: 1) to synthesize existing scientific literature and data about the effects of climate change on cropping systems and/or integrated crop-livestock systems within the Northern Plains region--making it more accessible and actionable for working land managers and decision-makers; 2) collaborate with other scientists, outreach professionals, farmers/ranchers and other food system participants to identify and evaluate potential climate adaptation and mitigation strategies for the region; 3) co-design, facilitate, and evaluate interactive outreach activities and resources, such as agricultural peer-to-peer learning opportunities, field demonstrations, fact-sheets, website materials, and decision-support information or tools; and 4) engage in, contribute to, and sometimes lead Climate Hub initiatives, peer-reviewed publications, administrative reports, and meetings. 
 
This position requires a Ph.D. in Agronomy (Series 0471, view requirements at https://bit.ly/3JdEp4i), Ecology (Series 0408, view requirements at https://bit.ly/3kLPPCs), or a closely related field. Practical knowledge of crops, livestock, and climate is helpful, along with an ability to interpret experimental designs and statistical analyses. Effective written and verbal communication, especially with the general public, is required. A strong interest in pursuing outreach as a career is desirable. Experience co-producing outreach or research with underserved communities is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently is needed.
