🎯 Opportunity Overview
We’re mobilizing residents to urge City Council to pass the Stop Trashing Our Air Act (Bill No. 250768), introduced by Council Member Jamie Gauthier. The Committee on the Environment advanced the bill on November 17, 2025, and now the full Council will vote. Volunteers will contact their Council Members to share why a “yes” vote matters — for public health, environmental justice, and Philadelphia’s transition away from harmful waste‑burning practices.

🛠️ What Volunteers Do

  • Contact your District Council Member and At‑Large Members
  • Share why you support the Stop Trashing Our Air Act
  • Describe any personal experiences with air pollution, asthma, or environmental impacts from waste incineration
  • Explain why you want Philadelphia to move toward waste prevention, reuse, repair, composting, and modern recycling
  • Participate in a lobby day with small group meetings (optional)
  • Use provided talking points and supplement with your own experiences

💡 What You’ll Learn / Gain

  • Understanding of how waste incineration affects air quality and community health
  • Insight into how policy can accelerate circular‑economy solutions
  • Experience in civic engagement and meeting with elected officials
  • Confidence in sharing your story and advocating for systemic change

⏰ Time Commitment

  • Flexible: contacting your Council Member can take as little as 10–20 minutes
  • No long‑term commitment required

📍 Location

  • Fully remote: phone calls and emails

👥 Who This Is Great For

  • Residents concerned about air quality, asthma, or environmental justice
  • People who want to see Philadelphia invest in waste reduction and reuse
  • Anyone new to advocacy — no experience needed
  • Community members ready to share their lived experiences or support neighbors impacted by pollution

📝 Requirements

  • None — all Philly residents are welcome
  • Training and talking points provided
  • Personal stories encouraged but not required
