Leading through Change Discussion

We don't always have the time to intentionally connect with our peers to grow + develop. That's why we have purposefully created this time in our sessions to give you an opportunity to connect and discuss your own experiences and leadership. Please use the following questions as a guide to your breakout room discussions.

First Breakout Room:
  • In this lesson, we shared that “By ignoring emotions, [we] fail both to harness the positive emotions that spur performance and the negative emotions that undermine it.” Discuss a situation where you may have ignored your personal reactions to a situation to the detriment of yourself + the team.
  • Which area (Predictability, Clarity, Control, Care) resonates the most with you, as you look to communicate change? Why? What is one strategy you can do to try + implement it?
  • Sometimes big changes can negatively impact your team’s ability to focus on the work. Consider this in your current reality. If your team was struggling in their day-to-day, what phrases could you use to tie their work into something bigger, in order to help them see their importance + impact?
Second Breakout Room:
  • Consider a change that you have experienced with your current team. What observations do you have about how the team culture shifted during this change? How did you/will you address it?
  • Based on what was shared in this lesson, what do you think is most critical for maintaining morale and enabling retention during organizational change?
  • When you’ve experienced organizational change, which practice do you think could have helped minimized distraction and encourage day-to-day productivity? (1:1 Meetings, Team Meetings, Containers for Conversation, Address Gossip.)
