FAQ

Will there be an option to watch the race in-person while being socially distant?
  • No. This will be a virtual-only race. We are working on a multi-camera setup to watch the race from multiple angles, but it will be watched from the comfort of your own home. This means you can stock up on all your favorite snacks!

Will there be a way for my Scouts to participate in the race besides simply watching their car race?
  • Yes! We are working on fun segments to build in around the race, especially during reset times. These may include polls to answer online, hashtag challenges to submit pictures, and live interviews with some racers. Stay tuned!

Do I have to drop off my car at the Unit Service Center? Wouldn’t it be safer to ship it?
  • We don’t recommend shipping the Pinewood Derby cars. While our delivery service workers do their best to ensure intact deliveries, we would be heartbroken if a car were to arrive broken and unable to race. There will be plenty of opportunity to drop off cars downtown during operational hours in a social distant manner (don’t forget your face mask!).

Can a member of our Pack drop-off cars in bulk?
  • Yes! But we encourage socially distant, no-contact measures for any adult picking up cars from their Pack members. Cars may also be picked up in bulk. The Pack member assumes all responsibility for the caretaking of the cars while in their possession.

How will you determine that the racing lanes are fair?
  • We are working with a Pack who has graciously donated use of their brand-new track. We will calibrate and test it ahead of the race. We want a fair championship, and “A Scout is Trustworthy.”

How will I get my car back after the race?
  • Cars will be available for pickup at the Unit Service Center during operational hours. You will also be able to pick up your patch and certificate, plus any medals or trophies that the racers earned.

How will the Race Officials stay safe?
  • We will follow all guidelines from the State of Ohio as far as personal screening, group sizes, face masks, and other PPE are concerned. Surfaces will be sanitized regularly, and cars will be sanitized prior to handling. The will be re-sanitized before being returned to their owner.

I signed up for one of the council races that were postponed. Do I need to register again, and what will happen if I overpaid?
  • No, but you do need to update your registration. We will email everyone who had signed up for one of the in-person semi-finals with a link to access their registration and add the new required information for our virtual race. At that time, you may also request a refund of the balance if you paid more than is due for the virtual race, or you may choose to donation out of the balance to help with council operations during these challenging times.

I'd like to help during the virtual event! Is there some way that I can be involved?
  • Yes, you can sign up here! But know that there, unfortunately, won't be a place for children during the event. We're looking for Garage Officials, folks to move around the cars on and off the track, an announcer with a good radio voice, and more. We don't need a big crew, but we need a great crew! You would need to be available at least in the morning on June 13th, and possible the evening of June 12th for preparation.
