Student Success Resources During Remote Instruction

For many of our programs, our usual pattern of work and life has been disrupted during measures to control the COVID-19 pandemic. To help you navigate the support available and how it may be accessed at this time, we have compiled the overview below. Reporting a Need or Concern
Our CARE Team meets regularly to coordinate support and assistance for students. If you have a need personally or know of another student’s need, including technology or access needs as we move to remote learning, you may let us know by filling out the form at wpulife.com/report or by contacting Kimberly Love for the traditional undergraduate program at klove@warnerpacific.edu or Felita Singleton for PGS students at fsingleton@warnerpacific.edu.

PGS students are also encouraged to reach out to their advisor with any questions or concerns (Kirby Gleason, kgleason@warnerpacific.edu; Sara Garcia Gonzalez, svgarcia@warnerpacific.edu; Aaron Hire, ahire@warnerpacific.edu).

Library

The Library main and west entrance will remain open during business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday). Physical distancing of 6 feet will be monitored by library personnel in accordance with Oregon's “Stay Home, Save Lives” order.

In light of the move to online instruction, the Library's digital subscription database has been upgraded with additional access to full text resources as well as making new e-book collections available until June 30, 2020. More information about how to access these digital resources may be found on the Shield and Signpost.

Academic Tutoring

All tutoring services are still happening like they would during the typical academic term, we are just transitioning to online platforms only. To keep all members of WPU safe and healthy, all tutoring services and academic supports can be facilitated through platforms like Google, email, etc.

You may set up a virtual appointment with Janice Nehren, Academic Success Coordinator, by emailing jnehren@warnerpacific.edu. More information and tutoring schedules may be found on the Shield.

Counseling

The WPU Counseling Center remains open for distance sessions during this time. If you need to connect with a counselor for a check-in please email counseling@warnerpacific.edu. We can provide video and telephone sessions during normal hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Disability Resources Center (DRC) - Academic and Learning Accommodations

The Disability Resources Center's (DRC) online hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. via email and scheduled Zoom appointments. To schedule an appointment, email Jann McCaul at jmccaul@warnerpacific.edu.

Students considering online accommodations may find more information on the Disability Resources Center page, and an online handout is available to review before requesting accommodations .

All DRC accommodation request forms are available in E-format (PDF and Word Doc). When students email Jann at the email address above, she can send the e-forms to be filled out and returned via email.

Athletics and the Rec Center

The NAIA cancelled all spring seasons and practices and has granted all full time student athletes in Fall 2020 2 additional semesters of eligibility or the equivalent.

We know that a lack of access to the Rec Center or the normal facilities you may use to work out can be a challenge for physical and mental wellness. To help, our Athletics Department and Athletic Trainers have compiled a list of workout options you can do from home. Follow the link above to find them.

Campus Housing

Housing will remain open to students who wish to remain on campus for the rest of the semester. For those who would like to move out of your unit due to classes moving to a remote format, you must notify Jessica Richards, housing coordinator (jlrichards@warnerpacific.edu), in email by Wednesday, April 1 and check out of your unit by Friday, April 3.

Students who move out will receive a prorated housing and meal plan credit toward Fall semester 2020. For graduating seniors who elect to move out early, refund options will be available based on your financial aid and current payment status.

As long as the Oregon Governor’s “Stay Home, Save Lives” order is in effect, residential students are not permitted to have guests in university housing and are not allowed to visit other students in campus housing. Use of shared lounges is discouraged, and physical distancing measures of at least 6 feet should be maintained when in shared spaces.

Dining Services

Meal access remains available for residential students only. The Café is open 7 days a week for to-go pick up of meals for lunch from 12 to 1 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 6:00 p.m. Students may order meals ahead by 10 a.m. or may come during the above hours for pre-made to-go options. To leave an order, text 503-312-2513 with an order from the menu or a Sodexo representative can call you back. For questions on dining options and a copy of the weekly menu, please contact General Manager Jeff Rott at Jeffery.rott@sodexo.com.

Unused Flex Dollars on meal plan accounts will roll over to the Fall 2020 semester.

Chapel (and Faith and Service Requirements)

Faith and Service requirements for traditional undergraduate students have been waived for the remainder of the semester. We ask that you submit any service hours already complete at https://wpulife.com/warner-pacific-service-form. This helps us to track and celebrate the work you are doing to support our community!

The Campus Ministries team will continue to release weekly QuiX (our quick chapels) on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. We encourage you to check in and join us for worship and a short encouraging message there!

Mail Room

The mail center is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Career Services

For Career Service support needs that include interview preparation, resume feedback, or career counseling, please contact Felita Singleton at fsingleton@warnerpacific.edu.

Access to Campus Facilities

Many offices and buildings on campus are closed for general usage for the duration of Oregon's "Stay Home, Save Lives" operation. The dining hall remains open during lunch and dinner hours for residential students to pick up meals, and the Library remains open during business hours. Campus Labs are available only with a professor. More information may be found on the Shield, PGS Update, and Signpost.

Internet and Wifi Options

The campus library remains open during regular hours for computer and wifi access (see the information above), and students with specific technology needs should reach out to the CARE Team (also above) to let the University know so we can help navigate resources. 

Additionally, a number of companies are offering free wifi access during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please review resources to ensure you are comfortable with the offers, but here are a few starting points:

You can find updates on services and events in two key places: the campus blogs (the Shield and PGS Update) and the WPU App. To download the app, go to the App Store or Google Play and search for Warner Pacific University. You can log in with your campus email in order to access calendars, groups, notifications, and more.
