2024 Goose Creek District Scouting for Food FAQs
What is Scouting for Food?
For Goose Creek District, Scouting for Food is a two-weekend community service event. During the first weekend, Scouts go door-to-door to distribute notices, informing neighbors about the upcoming food drive. The following weekend, Scouts return to those same houses to collect bags filled with non-perishable items like canned goods, cereal, and pasta. All collected food is then donated to local food pantries to help those in need.
2024 Scouting for Food Dates
- Post-it Distribution: November 2, 2024
- Food Pick-Up and Drop-Off: November 9, 2024
Immediately after collection, food is dropped off at a designated food pantry.
Can My Unit Participate on Different Dates?
Yes! While the council-provided post-its list November 9 as the collection date, your unit may choose to run its campaign at a different time. The council also provides a flyer template that can be printed if your unit prefers to create its own schedule.
Participation Beyond Post-its and Pickups
Small units or those looking for alternative ways to help are encouraged to get involved at any level. Options include:
- Volunteering for food sorting at local pantries
- Organizing a drive-up collection
Any way your unit participates will make a difference in the community!
Will We Receive Post-its or Bags?
For 2024, Goose Creek Units will be provided post-its. Once your unit's collection area has been confirmed, you’ll receive more information about distribution dates and locations. Post-it distribution is estimated to begin around October 9, 2024.
Where Do We Drop Off the Collected Food?
Yes, specific food banks will be assigned. Units will be notified once they’ve completed the Goose Creek District Scouting for Food Participation Form.
