  • Development of Policies / Best Practice
A few members commented that it was challenging to think about policies and best practices when a. We don’t have anything concrete to look at and b.  we don’t know enough about the system to know what can be done at the consortia level vs. institution level.  Heidi commented that other working groups are also struggling with this.

Nevertheless, the committee agreed we should begin drafting some policies/guidelines.  Below are some of the policies/guidelines we can start working on.

Policy/Best Practices for Educating SUNY Librarians on Primo
The purpose of this document would be to help prepare SUNY Librarians for the migration to Primo.  Some institutions e.g. Buffalo have started looking at Primo and are beginning to discuss how the migration to Primo will impact library services.  Some institutions may be less informed of Primo and may also not realize that Primo will replace the “classic catalogue” (Aleph).
We might especially want to think about how we can work with reference/instruction/collection librarians because they may be less involved with the Alma migration.  This document might include “selling feature” of Primo e.g. browse search

Customization of Primo -SUNY vs. Campus Decisions
Erin shared CUWL’s policy on consortium vs. campus decisions for Primo. https://3.basecamp.com/3649838/buckets/5867332/uploads/934152101 . We may want to look at creating something similar

Follow up for next meeting
  • Everyone - Informally survey staff at your institions about Primo - what concerns/questions to they have at this point.  How can this group help prepare them for moving to Primo.  At the next meeting, everyone will report back on their findings
  • Everyone - either start looking at other sites who are using Primo (specifically the new UI) https://el-una.org/working-groups/primo/primo-sites OR ExLibris documentation on Primo so that we have a better understanding of how Primo can be customized.  At the next meeting, everyone will report back on their observations
  • Jessica - Will look at Eluna Repository to see if there are any useful presentations to review
  • Michelle- Will look for additional documents to review
