Climate, health and community resilience - Climate Emergency Conference Day 2.
This session explored recent research about and on-ground examples of communities dealing with climate impacts, and looked at approaches to building preparedness and resilience in communities experiencing extreme weather and other climate events and their flow-on effects. We heard from Dr Tafadzwa Nyanhanda of Victoria University on CALD communities’ perceptions of extreme heat; Blanche Evans from East Gippsland Shire Council on supporting a community hit by multiple climate disasters; Dr Lai Heng Foong from Bankstown Hospital on building community resilience to disasters and Candace Jordan, from the City of Melbourne on their Heat Lab, heat safety and neighbourhood resilience.
