The History of the Compass Club
The Compass Club was launched in 2001 by a certified Professional member and AIBD Fellow, Mike Keesee (pause for applause).

The program's founding sponsor is SoftPlan Architectural Design Software, which contributed $15,000 to launch and sustain the program (yes, more applause).
When discussing the American Institute of Building Design with other industry professionals, encourage them to list you as their "sponsor" when filling out their AIBD membership application. When this happens, sponsors are rewarded.
- Earn 2 points for recruiting a new Professional Member and 1 point for recruiting a new member at any other membership level.
- Members enter the club upon their first recruit with a gift from AIBD, and then Compass Club lapel pins are awarded as follows:
- 5 points β A bronze Compass Club pin.
- 15 points β A silver Compass Club pin.
- 25 points β A gold Compass Club pin.
- 50 points β A diamond Compass Club pin.
- Individuals who recruit three Professional-level members during a membership period receive one year of complimentary national dues.

- Each year at the annual meeting, the individual and the AIBD chapter that amassed the most Compass Club points are recognized.
- Points are tallied between July 1 and June 30 each year.
