- HWH meets its duty of care responsibilities when transporting clients as part of its services.
This includes HWH vehicles, vehicles owned by clients, and vehicles owned by workers.

- when travelling for official duties (for example, going to a client's home)
- when transporting clients.
- to all representatives involved in travelling or transporting clients as part of their duties.

Policy
Transporting clients
Clients should only be transported by those authorised to do so, and only when required.
When transporting clients, the organisation should:

- always maintain a safe environment
- be courteous and responsive to the clients being transported
- ensure all passengers wear seatbelts
- ensure the correct child seat is used when transporting children.
In the event of a medical emergency:
- do not attempt to transport a client
- always call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance.

- ensure vehicles used are fit for purpose
- ensure all company vehicles are registered, insured, and maintained
- ensure all drivers have a current driver’s licence and any personal vehicles used are insured
- ensure appropriate risk management is in place for any services that involve workers travelling or transporting clients.

Workers will:

- maintain a current driver’s licence appropriate for the vehicle they are driving
- obey all relevant road rules when driving
- if driving a personal vehicle while on duties, ensure it is registered, insured and roadworthy
- if driving a client vehicle, ensure it is roadworthy
- advise key management of any incidents that occur
- advise key management of any changes to their driver’s licence e.g. suspensions or disqualifications
- not drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- not smoke when transporting clients
- not use a mobile phone while driving unless with a hands-free device.
