SUNY Resource Sharing Platform Task Force - Call for Participation

Alma resource sharing has helped a significant number of SUNY libraries reduce their resource sharing systems costs, but it may never be full replacement for other resource sharing platforms. The majority of SUNY libraries will likely need to use multiple resource sharing platforms for the foreseeable future.  SUNY Library Services is constituting a task force to help assess other resource sharing platforms that could potentially be cost-effective alternatives to ILLiad and WorldShare ILL. This task force will focus on:

  • Identifying and gathering the data that SUNY libraries need to accurately assess their resource sharing needs and the cost-effectiveness of their current resource sharing platform subscriptions.
  • Gathering information on non-OCLC based resource sharing platforms, including (but not limited to) Rapido, RapidILL, EBSCO OpenRS, Project ReShare, and CrossLink.
  • Planning webinars and/or vendor demos for those resource sharing platforms.
  • Developing recommendations for SUNY libraries that need guidance on how to best meet their resource sharing needs.
  • Facilitating a system-wide conversation on the future of SUNY resource sharing.

We would like to assemble a task force that is representative of the SUNY system, and we’d also like the task force to contain a mix of resource sharing practitioners and library administrators. The task force will meet monthly. Some work between meetings will occasionally be required. If you are interested in participating in this task force, please email info@sunyolis.libanswers.com.

Thanks,
Tim
