The Brief
For Architecture Week 2024 the AJA invites all its members to create and send a post card from Jersey's future. What would it be like, what would it say, how would the island look, what would Jersey value as important, what qualities would the island want to communicate? What do you hope for? is it subtle, brash, natural, is it good? What it is and how far into the future you go is entirely up to you.
One side should feature an image, and the other should contain text. The interplay between these two sides offers a chance for wit, surprise, something thoughtful, poetic, direct. Combined they can be a powerful montage creating something greater.
The postcards will be displayed at Capital House from October 10th-20th, forming part of the exhibition for Architecture Week. There will also be an opportunity for members to present their postcard, and the ideas embedded within, on the opening night of the exhibition on October the 10th. Updates to follow.

Postcard Requirements
The submission requires a formatted postcard PDF with two pages:
- Page 1: The picture (postcard format 4x6)
- Page 2: The text.
The text should be at a readable size and should fit on the back of a postcard. We encourage you to handwrite the text as an image (but it is not a must). You should also submit the text as plain text when you email through your postcard.
The picture can be anything original: A photo you've taken, a drawing, a collage (all 3), or even a carefully edited version of another postcard. It can depict a place, an object, figures, a portrait, or be entirely abstract. The choice depends on the story you want to tell and the idea you wish to convey.
The story is your chance to delve deeper beyond the image. To Imagine yourself in the near future, writing to someone off island, to someone who knows nothing about Jersey. It can be something seen, experienced, or discovered. It could talk about significant that you feel compelled to share, that could improve a way of living, resource usage, or simply our existence. This narrative should have a spatial or architectural theme that resonates with today.
