The committee met on November 13th with two in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was to continue the overall review of the ARDA program. November specifically focused on judging, the selection process, and the possibility of adding to the existing number of three. It was decided that we would be breaking out the categories. Working drawings, and perhaps two later-determined categories will be judged by a separate set of judges. The main purpose of this shift is to allow the judges the needed time to review drawing sets. With the current system in place, judges would have about three to four minutes to review a set of drawings, before offering a vote. This simply is not enough time to ensure the highest level of quality and integrity associated with the ARDA program, and with the anticipated growth of ARDA entries, this shift will be all the more necessary.
At this time, these monthly huddles are to review, discuss, and find where we can improve and streamline the overall process. November was the last topic review that has taken place over the last three months. Our December huddle will focus on the general specifics of our PLAN A and PLAN B structure which will ultimately be determined by the number of entries. Through multiple discussions, it has been determined that the maximum number of entries under our current system is 150 or so. While we all believe that growth is a good thing. I also believe that being prepared is an even better thing. We learned in 2023 that 210 entries required a lot of last-minute adjustments which meant an abbreviated individual review for each entry.
It is my goal to present the Board with the revised ARDA structure at our January meeting now that the 2023 program review is complete. The revised category descriptions for the 2024 ARDA season can currently be found on Basecamp.
Respectfully,
Brandon Clokey
