This is what you will need to know to create a challenge station that will be used within the Battlefield Game on the Friday night of GWW.

  1. you will need to submit some sort of proposal to the project managers, in writing, before the Friday of the War.  You can email Master Joel the brewer your ideas at Joel@schonbrunn.com, or submit them in person via Countess Stazzi or Lady Thyri Grimmsdottir.
  2. We are trying to get as many challenge stations as we can, and hope they represent as many different facets of life within the SCA.  As such, we are hoping to get participation from any sort of group, household, unit or branch entity.  Examples could be: A barony, a Fighting unit, a pirate ship, a group of marshals, Guild members, a group of unbelts, a flock of pelicans, a group of potters, a group of newcomers, a group of ex-kingdom members, the trash crew, the haybale crew, etc...  Please contact us if you have any questions about forming a group...!
  3. the station should have a single type of challenge in it, and be prepared to be staffed for at least the hours of 7-9pm, with setup taking place from 5-7, on the battlefield
  4. We have access to the whole battlefield area, and the haybales, but it must be fully restored and battleready by the end of the night, so if you want to move things around, you must reserve resources to set it back up as you found it again before leaving for the night...
  5. We have suggestions for challenge stations, but we are very interested in new and different ideas from the populace!  Surprise us!  Reveal your creativity and inner awesome.
  6. Each challenge should be something that can be attempted within 2-3 minutes, to accommodate a high flow of people.  If it is within your staffing and resources, you might find it best if you can setup 2-3 instances of your challenge so they can take place concurrently with multiple teams.
  7. The rules of your challenge station are largely up to you!  The only hard and fast rules are that it must have a clear metric for success or failure, and when a team succeeds they will get one or more health tokens, and if they fail, they lose one or more health tokens.  A large supply of the very official health tokens will be provided to you at the beginning of the night.
  8. Be aware that lighting will be limited and sporatic.  If you need a lot of light for your challenge to work, please make sure you will be able to provide a suitable lighting solution.
  9. Whenever possible, we strongly encourage the challenge stations to be universally accessible, and family friendly.  We are not actively encouraging the game as child friendly, but can anticipate some youthful participants getting involved.
  10. Your challenge station can be *mobile*, like a wandering monster attack, if you prefer...  We want to try to keep it exciting, and full of surprises...
  11. Your challenge station can require two teams to compete against each other
  12. There are no minimum or maximum size for your challenge stations, other than the fact that you must share the space with everyone else.
  13. You are on your own to provide any and all required elements for the Challenge station, like chairs, tables, a pop-up, a 3-story rolling siege tower, etc...
  14. your challenge station cannot break pre-existing site rules, like shooting flaming arrows into haybales, or pretty much anything that involves fire.
  15. If you and your team would rather help with the infrastructure, we will definitely need additional people to help, so contact the Project Managers, and we can find you roles for the night.
