Committee Updates
At the most recent committee meeting, there were requests for booklists related to mental health as well as intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Diverse Families Bookshelf, featured in this module's Resources/Tools section, includes some titles on related subjects and we'll also work on fleshing out those requests with some additional booklists in June. Keep the ideas and requests coming!

Project Manager Updates
We are following the many updates to OverDrive's Marketplace resources with great interest. One item of note: the new Patron Interests information, which we hope to use to follow patron interest in curated campaigns, including campaigns that highlight diverse materials in particular.

Diverse Collection Action Plan Ideas | May
  • Work on your front-end audit: check out this community-crowd-sourced book list from the Seattle Public Library featuring characters, authors, (or both!) that are neurodivergent.
  • OverDrive's Yay for YA sale is happening now through the end of May, including 160+ titles from their Diverse Reads list.

Resource or Tool of the Month
Diverse Families Bookshelf: a website and a searchable database chock-full of picture books and YA materials "that highlight the broad spectrum of diversity found in today’s families" from interracial and LGBTQ+ families to books that cover health and disability topics within families.
