Project Manager Updates
Our big update this month is that OverDrive sent the July 2022 diversity audit report for the WPLC Digital Library.
- Check out the baseline audit, conducted in 2021.
- Check out the current audit, conducted in July 2022.
Initial takeaways:
OverDrive's report spotlights titles in 16 "diversity categories".
OverDrive's report spotlights titles in 16 "diversity categories".
- When the baseline audit was conducted in 2021, unique titles in a diversity category (all formats) made up 7.82% of the WPLC's overall digital library collection.
- In the audit conducted in July 2022, unique titles in a diversity category (all formats) made up 8.80% of the WPLC's overall digital library collection. So, the needle is moving in terms of the percentage of the collection that falls into a diversity category as reported by OverDrive.
- More than half of OverDrive's 16 diversity categories saw an increase in their share of titles within the WPLC collection, meaning that the needle is moving in terms of breadth across categories.

We are highlighting two book lists this month to support your front-end audit:
- Check out this list of titles for adult readers by authors or with characters that are Neurodiverse/with Disability, in Marketplace -- filtered by titles not already in the WPLC digital library collection.
- This summer book list from We Are Kid Lit Collective celebrates intersectionality through character perspectives and subject matter.
Resource or Tool of the Month
We Are Kid Lit Collective "works to create materials and opportunities to recognize the humanity of Indigenous and People of Color (IPOC) in youth literature. Our work is premised upon the principles of social justice, equity, and inclusion and centers IPOC voices in children’s literature in order to identify, challenge and dismantle white supremacy and both internalized and systematic racism. Our intended audience includes educators, librarians, caregivers and young people. We look for ways to improve the literacies of IPOC children, promote books written by and about IPOC, and to encourage gatekeepers to bring a lens of critical literacy to their work."
We Are Kid Lit Collective has published summer reading lists for youth readers since 2015, all of which are available on their website.
