Committee Updates
We got a great question posed by Chris Hamburg about whether the committee is aiming to reach a specific threshold in terms of the number of unique titles with OverDrive's diverse BISAC codes in the consortium collection -- are we aiming for 30% of the collection to be made up of titles with diverse BISAC codes, for example. At this time, project managers and the committee have not stated a specific goal in this area.

This may be a topic at an upcoming meeting so please give some thought as to whether you'd prefer to have a stated percentage goal to work toward, or prefer to keep it more general (i.e., increasing the share of diverse titles in the collection).

Project Manager Updates
Project managers are learning more about the new title-level shelf talkers in Libby and we look forward to taking those for a spin in the coming weeks. We will share some updates and ideas for implementing this new feature related to diverse titles in future modules.

Diverse Collection Action Plan Ideas | August
  • Study your surroundings: consider how your region's demographic is changing. Are there new immigrant communities not currently represented in your Advantage collection, or in the consortium collection overall? Check out the Census' QuickFacts to find updated demographic information related to Wisconsin, your county, and your community*.
  • OverDrive's mega Back to School sale kicked off on August 15th and runs through September 30th.

Resource or Tool of the Month
Title-level shelf talkers are available as a feature in Libby, and are a great way to talk up titles of all kinds, including titles by authors representing a range of perspectives and experiences that might fly under the radar. As we get ready to test-drive this new feature to spotlight diverse titles within the collection, you can learn more about the shelf talkers on your own! OverDrive has two great resources available related to shelf talkers:
