Decent Espresso 2023 goals and plans
I'd like to share with you some of the Big Things I'd like to get done for 2023:
- make the de1app work on all OSes, and also as a #webapp, so it'll run well on iPhone/iPad
- integrate the de1app with web services, so that #sharing profiles becomes easy. Ideally, a publish/subscribe approach, so you can get the latest version of profiles from people you follow, automatically. Remote monitoring of your machines, so we can help you diagnose problems, but also so that "fleets of DE1" at cafes, can be easily managed like server farms.
- move the Decent Manual off Basecamp, into something on the "open internet", so that non-customers can read it, but also so it can be read from the tablet, and so links stay working, and it can't be accidentally broken by users. Make a de1app manual and integrate it into the app. Also rewrite the Beginner's Guide to this, so that it's more accessible.
- Organize all the videos we've done into something coherent and findable.
- move the #Decent Bazaar off Basecamp, to something that works better for selling used items (DE1 and other coffee equipment)
Depending on time, for 2023, or maybe pushed to 2024:
- make a final decision on Basecamp as the foundation for Diaspora. Some things have gotten better, but there are still some big issues with using Basecamp with this many people, and I will want to see the Basecamp company start to address some of those issues.
- rewrite the de1app in Javascript, so that it is a native web-app. My intention is to initially do a 1:1 rewrite, so all screens, all features, stay the same. This will reduce the scope of the task, but also help people transition, and also means that the manual and help remain relevant.
- Integrate the de1app, Basecamp, your profiles, your espressos, your machines, and your account with Decent, to be a seamless single service.
- Now that we have a good video studio setup, continue making videos and corresponding web pages, for the major topics people want covered. Focus on shorter videos, and make them available (with text version of the topic too) on the tablet.
Your suggestions, very much wanted...
