“When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”
Genesis 6:2,4 (KJV)
“That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose… when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them…”
In all three, the sons of God are angelic beings, not humans.
This was well-understood by the ancient Hebrews, Second Temple literature, and the early church—until it was suppressed by later church fathers under pressure from Gnostic and allegorical reinterpretations.
“And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.”
These are fallen angels who transgressed boundaries.
✝️ NEW TESTAMENT USAGE – REGENERATE HUMANS
After the coming of Jesus Christ, the adoption of believers into sonship begins.
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God… Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him…”
