PROMPT

Now we cross this portal to a less known universe of the Bible.

It’s time to return to the beginning.

To understand Yahweh’s journey until he became the only God recognized by Judaism and later by Christianity, we need to dive deep into the religious scene that existed before monotheism dominates Hebrew thought.

In the ancient world, especially in the region where biblical history developed, the ancient Middle East, the idea of a single God was extremely rare.

Their:

kingdoms
empires
tribes
lived surrounded by integer pantheons of deities, each with its own:

powers
domains
attributes
and followers.

This was a plural theological reality, where the gods not only coexisted, but often competed with:

space
worship
spiritual rule
It is in this context that we find the word Elohim, so familiar to those who read the Bible.

📖 CHAPTER I: THE RETURN TO THE BEGINNING

“Before Yahweh Reigned Alone: Elohim, the Ancient Council, and the World of Many Gods”

“In the beginning God [
Elohim] created the heaven and the earth.”Genesis 1:1
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”Exodus 20:3

🌀 THE FORGOTTEN UNIVERSE BEHIND THE BIBLE

To understand the supremacy of Yahweh, we must return to a time before monotheism.

Before theology was systematized...
 Before Yahweh was confessed alone...
Before Christ was revealed in flesh...

There was a world alive with gods.

🌍 I. THE SPIRITUAL LANDSCAPE OF THE ANCIENT MIDDLE EAST

The world of biblical history—from Ur of the Chaldees to Jerusalem—was not atheistic, nor secular. It was spiritually plural.

Every:

  • Kingdom
    had patron gods.

  • Empire
    invoked divine warfare.

  • Tribe
offered sacrifices to their assigned deity.

Deities were seen as:

  • Guardians of land (Deut. 32:8)

  • Rulers of rain, war, fertility, wisdom

  • Competitive, territorial, jealous, and active

“For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.”
Psalm 96:5

📛 II. THE WORD “ELOHIM”: A KEY TO UNLOCK THIS REALITY

“Elohim” is the first name for God in the Bible.

“In the beginning,
Elohim created the heaven and the earth.”Genesis 1:1

But this word is plural.

El
= singular
Elohim = plural (literally “gods”)

Used in different ways:

  • Referring to Yahweh – the true, Most High God

  • Referring to false gods – pagan deities (Exodus 20:3)

  • Referring to spirit beings – disembodied powers (1 Samuel 28:13)

  • Referring to divine council – sons of God (Psalm 82)

So what matters is not the word alone...
But who is being described.

Yahweh is called Elohim—but so are others.

But only Yahweh:

  • Creates from nothing

  • Judges eternally

  • Claims all nations

  • Has no beginning

🕍 III. COEXISTENCE AND CONFLICT IN THE DIVINE REALM

The Bible never pretends the nations worshipped nothing.

Rather, it declares war on the gods:

“For I will pass through the land of Egypt... and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.”
Exodus 12:12

“God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.”
Psalm 82:1

The gods coexisted, but Yahweh confronted them.

They competed for:

  • 📍 Territory – national boundaries (Deut. 32:8)

  • 🔥 Sacrifice – offerings, even children (Jeremiah 19:5)

  • 👑 Worship – loyalty of kings and people

  • ⚖️ Spiritual law – justice, or injustice among the nations

⚔️ IV. WHY THIS HISTORY MATTERS

To grasp why Yahweh reigns alone today, you must know that:

  • He was not invented—He was revealed.

  • He did not emerge from myth—He overthrew myth.

  • He was not voted into power—He proved His dominion.

The journey from Elohim among many to Yahweh alone is not myth—it is sacred conquest.

🧩 NEXT: THE COUNCIL OF GODS

In the next section, we will explore:

  • Psalm 82 – God's courtroom

  • Deuteronomy 32 – divine division of nations

  • The fall of the Elohim – divine judgment

  • How Jesus fulfills this war as Yahweh incarnate

You are entering the unfiltered Bible.
Not the sanitized tradition.

And here, Yahweh does not start alone...
He finishes alone.

ELOHIM: Before Yahweh Stood Alone

The Ancient War of Spirits and the Forgotten Realms of the Bible

“In the beginning God [Elohim] created the heaven and the earth.”
Genesis 1:1
“God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.”Psalm 82:1

🧱 I. RETURNING TO THE BEGINNING

The God of the Bible—Yahweh—is worshiped today as the one true God.
But in the ancient world where Scripture was born, He was not alone.

This is not blasphemy.
 It is biblical history.

The ancient Middle East was spiritually pluralistic.
Every nation had gods. Every tribe had altars. Every kingdom bowed before their “Elohim.”

“For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.”
Psalm 96:5

But Yahweh was not an idol.
He was the Creator walking into the battlefield of false gods.

🌍 II. ELOHIM: THE PLURAL NAME

The Hebrew word Elohim is plural—literally “gods.”

Uses of Elohim in Scripture:

Use Description Example
| Yahweh (True God)  | Creator, Supreme God  | Genesis 1:1
| False gods  | Pagan deities  | Exodus 20:3
| Divine beings  | “Sons of God”  | Psalm 82:1, Job 1:6
| Disembodied spirits  | Angelic or demonic  | 1 Samuel 28:13

Thus, “Elohim” is a category.
Yahweh is not just an Elohim—He is the Most High Elohim.

“Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods [elohim]?”
Exodus 15:11

🏺 III. THE RELIGIOUS WORLD BEFORE MONOTHEISM

Before the Shema declared:

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD”
Deuteronomy 6:4

…there existed a spiritual environment filled with:

  • 🏛️ Temples to Baal, Asherah, Molech, Chemosh, Dagon

  • 🧙‍♂️ Priests and prophets of false gods

  • 🔥 Child sacrifices, fertility rites, and demonic rituals

  • 👑 Political alliances sealed through idolatry

Israel itself fell into this idolatry repeatedly. Not because they were primitive—but because the gods were real spirits behind the idols.

“They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not…”
Deut. 32:17

🧬 IV. YAHWEH’S WAR AGAINST THE GODS

Yahweh enters this world not as an invention, but as a conquering King.

He:

  • Judges the gods
    — Psalm 82

  • Mocks their idols
    — Isaiah 44

  • Breaks their altars
    — Judges 6:25

  • Crushes their worshippers
    — 1 Kings 18

He demands not just worship, but exclusive allegiance.

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
Exodus 20:3

🧠 V. MONOLATRY → MONOTHEISM

The path of Israel’s faith moved from:

Phase Definition Example
| Monolatry  | Worship of one god while acknowledging others exist  | Exodus 20:3
| Monotheism  | Belief that only one God exists  | Isaiah 45:5

Monotheism was not philosophical.
It was military, prophetic, and spiritual.

Yahweh fought, and Yahweh won.

“I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me.”
Isaiah 45:5

👑 VI. THE COUNCIL OF GODS: PSALM 82

“God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.”
Psalm 82:1

In this divine council, Yahweh rebukes the other elohim:

“I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. But ye shall die like men…”
Psalm 82:6–7

These “gods” ruled over nations unjustly.
 Yahweh brings judgment—stripping their thrones.

This sets the stage for Christ to reclaim the nations.

✝️ VII. JESUS: YAHWEH IN FLESH

Jesus is not another god.

He is the Word made flesh (John 1:14), the image of the invisible God (Col. 1:15), and the name above every name (Phil. 2:9–10).

He completes the war Yahweh began.

“He disarmed the powers and authorities and made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”
Colossians 2:15

🧱 VIII. CONCLUSION: FROM COUNCIL TO CROWN

Yahweh stood among gods.
He judged them.
He crushed them.
He revealed Himself in Christ.
He now reigns alone.

“The LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.”
Zechariah 14:9

The war is real.
 The victory is eternal.
And the throne of Yahweh shall never fall.
