 We must not forget Moloch, a deity associated with children’s sacrifices.

The Bible vehemently condemns Moloch worship, but this intense condemnation suggests that he had a real and threatening presence among the people of Israel.

The prophets rose against the Israelites who passed their children through fire, a practice attributed to this cult.

That is, even the most terrible of the pagan gods had influence within the Israeli territory.

This mosaic of deities shows that, and for a long time, the people of Israel did not practice pure monotheism, but a form of monolatry.

That is, they only worshipped Yahweh, but they recognized that other gods existed.

And this difference is fundamental to understand the historical, spiritual, and even political process that led Yahweh to become the only recognized god, with all others being demoted to the category of false gods or demons.
