The Gap Theory—the belief that there is a vast span of time between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2—is a doctrinal invention meant to reconcile modern geology with the Biblical account of Creation.

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.” —Genesis 1:1-2 (KJV)

There is no mention of destruction, judgment, or recreation between these verses.

The Hebrew text offers no grammatical or contextual evidence for an "age" in between.

“For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is…”—Exodus 20:11 (KJV)

This clearly affirms that everything was created in six days—not remade or reformed after a previous creation.

Allowed Christians to accept millions of years without rejecting Genesis.

This theory opened the door for deep time, which undermines the authority of the Bible, especially the historicity of:

  • the Fall
  • death as the result of sin

If death existed before Adam, the Gospel collapses.
