3) WRITE a 1-paragraph response that addresses this prompt: "According to the MLA Handbook, the CUNY Policy on Academic Integrity, and the Cornell University website, what are three specific examples of plagiarism that can be found in college writing, and what are three specific ways that plagiarism can be avoided?"

4) WRITE a response to the following prompt: Consider the following hypothetical situation. A student has been assigned to write a paper about a novel by Charles Dickens. Before she has recorded in a draft her own thoughts about the novel, she (a) looks at different web sources to get ideas and information about the novel. She is persuaded by the interpretation of the novel on one website and (b) decides to incorporate that interpretation into her paper by rephrasing its main points in more accessible language. She decides to discuss the novel in terms of Victorian society, and (c) checks Wikipedia for the dates of Queen Victoria’s reign; she then incorporates that information into her paper. Questions for this prompt: According to the CUNY Policy on Academic Integrity, the MLA Handbook, and the Cornell University website, is the student committing plagiarism? Consider all three parts of the hypothetical situation separately, italicized (a), (b) and (c). Say whether you think any of these acts constitutes plagiarism, and why. Finally, discuss whether there is anything the student could do to avoid committing plagiarism. Your in-class writing should include at least two direct quotations from The MLA Handbook in support of your argument.

5) SEND what you've written for 3) and 4) to me as a Ping (Direct Message) on this site. You can enter your responses directly into the Ping, or attach a separate file with them (e.g., a PDF or Word Document).
