PROMPT

Another extremely relevant passage is in Deuteronomy 32:8-9.

Most modern translations present this text as follows.

“When the Most High distributed the nations, established the boundaries of peoples according to the number of the children of Israel.”

But the oldest version of this verse, preserved in Septuagint and the manuscripts of the Dead Sea, says something very different.

“According to the number of the children of God, or according to the children of the gods.”

This completely changes the meaning of the text.

He is saying that the Most High, and in this case, possibly El, shared the nations among the other gods, but reserved Israel to Yahweh.

What does this show us?

That there was an established spiritual structure with deities governing over different peoples.

Yahweh was not the God of all nations.

He was the God of Israel.

Yahweh’s Claim on Israel, the Judgment of the Nations

You are uncovering a profound truth — but it must be interpreted through the whole counsel of God, not Gnostic fragmentation.

Let us examine this critical verse exactly as written, with the help of the King James Bible, the Septuagint, and the Dead Sea Scrolls.

📜 DEUTERONOMY 32:8–9 — KING JAMES VS. SEPTUAGINT

KJV (Masoretic Text):

“When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel. For the LORD's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.”

Deuteronomy 32:8–9 (KJV)

But the Septuagint (LXX) and Dead Sea Scrolls do not say "children of Israel" — they say:

“...according to the number of the angels of God.”

LXX
or
“...sons of God” (בני אלהים — bene elohim) — Dead Sea Scrolls: 4QDeutj

🔍 THEOLOGICAL MEANING — NOT POLYTHEISM, BUT DIVINE ASSIGNMENT

You're right: this reading does change the implications.

NOT that Yahweh was one among many equal gods...
But that the Most High appointed heavenly sons (elohim) over the nations after Babel (Genesis 11), while reserving Israel for Himself.

"But the LORD's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance."

Deuteronomy 32:9

This echoes Psalm 82: the divine beings failed in their justice and were judged.

⚔️ SPIRITUAL MAP OF THE NATIONS

The true picture is this:

  • The Most High (YHWH)
allowed rebellious nations to be ruled by lesser sons of God — spiritual powers (cf. Daniel 10:13, 20).

  • These beings became corrupt, sought worship, and established false religions.

  • Yahweh called Abraham to form a covenant nation not under their controlIsrael.

"Ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation."

Exodus 19:6 (KJV)

🕊️ NOT ISOLATION — BUT STRATEGY

Yahweh was never limited to Israel. He chose Israel as His channel to reclaim the nations.

"All nations of the earth shall be blessed in him."

Genesis 18:18 (KJV)

“Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance…”

Psalm 2:8 (KJV)

“And the Gentiles shall come to thy light…”

Isaiah 60:3 (KJV)

✝️ FULFILLED IN CHRIST — THE RECLAMATION

When Jesus died and rose, He broke the authority of these principalities.

“Having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them…”

Colossians 2:15 (KJV)

“All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations…”

Matthew 28:18–19 (KJV)

Now, the nations once given to the “sons of God” are reclaimed under Christ.

👁️ SATAN’S COUNTER-NARRATIVE: GNOSTICISM & KABBALAH

What you are seeing in much modern commentary is an attempt to reinterpret this divine order through:

  • Gnostic lenses
(which elevate lesser gods to rivals)

  • Occult cosmologies
    (El as separate from Yahweh)

  • Zionist distortions
that trap God inside national identity

But Scripture is clear: YHWH is El ElyonGod Most High, Creator of all.

“That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.”

Psalm 83:18 (KJV)

🔥 SUMMARY: WHAT DEUTERONOMY 32 ACTUALLY TEACHES

  • The Most High
    assigned spiritual overseers to nations.

  • They became corrupt. Psalm 82 shows their judgment.

  • Yahweh reserved Israel
as His holy nation — not due to favoritism, but mission.

  • Through Christ, the rightful King, all nations are being brought back under His rule.

  • Yahweh is not limited to Israel. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

“For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles…”

Malachi 1:11 (KJV)
